$12,000 Scorched Earth Tournament for RO2

by Alan Wilson on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, under News

Forgotten Honor together with Tripwire Interactive and The Wild Bunch are happy to announce the opening of the sign-ups for our massive knockout tournament “Scorched Earth”. This is the first competitive tournament for Tripwire Interactive’s new release – Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. To celebrate, Tripwire Interactive is putting up $8,000 for the winning team and $4,000 for the second place team!

“Scorched Earth” is a knockout tournament for Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, played in the Countdown gametype. The tournament will run through rounds of matches, held between clans in a US division and a European division, with the winners of each division playing a Grand Final (USA vs EU) on servers on both sides of the Atlantic. All tournament servers will be provided exclusively by Gaming Deluxe for Europe and NFO Servers for the US.

For the full details and to sign your clan up, head for the Scorched Earth sign-up page at: http://www.forgottenhonor.com/scorchedea rth/clan-presignups.html

Ankündigungen _
Details on what is in it, and to have a chance to beta test it are below:

Add the following to the end of your target line of your steam start up shortcut:
-beta orcred2

example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -beta orcred2

Change log:

Map Balance

- Reduced Elite Riflemen and Assault roles on all maps.

- Fixed various spawn camping issues on all maps.

- Apartments - Added additional allied spawn after capturing the first set of objectives

- Barracks - Fixed an exploit that allowed you to get into a wall

- Fallen Fighters - Added missing spawn on squad leader spawns to sewers and trenches

- Grain Elevator - Added a spawn for the Allies that is on the 4th floor. This for when the allies are defending the Foothold

- Spartanovka - Fixed an issues with spawn protection incorrectly showing up when one of the objectives was captured in the 16 player version. Also fixed an Allied spawn not working correctly on the 16 player version.

Performance/Stability
- Reduced the fps hitch during first spawn
- Improved the framerate smoothing video setting to give more stable FPS
- Fixed memory spike when changing teams in the role selection menu
- Improved physics performance (removing another cause of hitching)

Other
- Fixed a wall exploit while leaning
- Satchel objectives can now be 'captured' by destroying the target
- Fixed getting kicked for idling if the server has set MaxIdleTime when reinforcements have run out, or when dead in countdown mode.
- Fixed momentary green scope texture when taking over a bot with a sniper scope.
- Fixed an bug where tank crew members would be invisible the first time they unhatch from the driver seat
- Tank geometry should no longer disappear after being killed as a tank crewman
- Several problems with the hero rank have been addressed (Enemy loadout weapons not showing up, losing hero status after death, UI refinements, etc...)
- Launching the game the first time will add a setting, HUDTipsLevel, to ROGame.ini. Changing this will reduce the amount of text tips that appear on the HUD (0 - All Tips, 1 - Moderate Tips, 2 - Few Tips). Looking for feedback and later on we may add it as a menu option.

To leave the beta, remove the additional line from your steam shortcut and delete your RO 2 config files in mydocuments/mygames/ro2/config.

Oktober 2011.

Important news about the competitions

Cheating has been always the biggest problem with online gaming and competitions, that's why we spend lots of time to watch demos, discuss suspicious cases and punish cheaters in the past years at ROLadder.

As most of you guys know, it's not possible to watch any demos right now because the playback function is still missing, due to that fact our last hope for the OpeningCup was the integration of Punkbuster. We welcomed HSMagnet as an advisor into our team who's staff member of PBBans and RedOrchestra2 player since the first days of the family and friends beta. We tried a lot of different settings and probably tested every possible variation but we have to tell that the screenshot capturing and the cvar_check features of Punkbuster aren't working, too. That means you can neither capture random screenshots directly from the player's game nor check the config settings.

A long story cut short, the OpeningCup was meant to be the great kickoff for RedOrchestra2 competitions at ROLadder but with this circumstances the staff team thinks that a serious competition will probably end in a big mess. So we'll reschedule the tournament till these issues are fixed. That's it for the bad news.

On the other hand, we also have some good news for you. As we're currently still negotiating with some possible sponsors this reschedule might be rewarded with some prizes. Furthermore we decided to kick off all ladder competitions next wednesday because we know how much you guys want to play finally some matches at ROLadder. These competitions will run in a way of a test mode, that means the ranking will be completely resetted after a timeperiod to start the real ranking.
